Audiophilia

This is a DAP. A digital audio player. I had to struggle so much to get this in my hands, but thanks to my brother, it finally arrived.
In my previous blog I spoke of why I have a preference of consuming audio media over visual, and this device has expanded my world of audio love even more.

What its mainly used for is listening to lossless audio files (music mainly). Most of the music we listen to is compressed and loses a lot of definition and quality in the process. This is necessary otherwise the size of the file would be about 25Mb for one song.
However, 320kbps mp3 is nearly just as good. On your phone there is no difference between a 320kbps mp3 file and a FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) file (unless you’re using an LG phone with a dedicated DAC). You need something more to access the full power of a FLAC file.

Having said that, you need to couple the DAP with a pair of good headphones/earphones. I have never really used many good headphones, the first I ever used was a pair of Sennheiser. They were good, but the AKG N60 that I got three years ago is where I settled for a long time.
To go with the DAP, I went for a well recommended pair of IEMs (In Ear Monitors) , the Moondrop Kanas Pros.

The first time I listened to HiFi quality music on the Moondrops was mind-blowing.
Its like leaving a cave and seeing the vast veld in front of you for the first.
And, get this, I had this experience on a phone! The IEMs had arrived before the DAP.

Now that I’ve paired the two (DAP and IEM), I can only look back with fondness at all the 128kbps files I have in my external hard drives.

I’ve been bitten; and have caught the audiophile bug!
